November 2023

(Meeting Tuesday, November 28, Chilton Public Library, 6:30 PM)

Dear Calumet County Democrats:

We are a year away from “the” election, and the Democratic Party in Wisconsin is actively working this month to connect with voters who may lean Democrat, or are undeclared, or are Democrats kind of iffy on voting. The last couple of weeks has seemingly been a rollercoaster of poll numbers, Republicans in congress behaving like grade schoolers, a rise in antisemitism, and still outrageous LGBTQ backlash, to say nothing of continuing civil rights violations of many Americans. Enough! If you have any time to give, now is the time to step up. Of course the door knocking, telephoning strangers, and even a postcard or two can be intimidating.  That will come to pass soon enough, as January comes, so we must step up the involvement if we want to see a change of direction in Wisconsin.

And yes, we now have even more presence in Calumet County! We have Adopt-A Highway signs between New Holstein and Kiel on highway 57/32. Since we just received the materials this week, we will be doing a first litter pickup next spring. It is a 2 mile stretch of roadway, so we will need 8 persons aged eleven years old or older. The date will be set in April/May 2024, but now would be the time to say “YES, I’ll help!”. Just send a reply to this email and we’ll keep you posted.

Things you can do:

Please consider joining:

WisDems:(https://secure.actblue.com/donate/wisdems-membership?refcode=mem-website-home-slider

A portion of your dues come back to our local county party and helps us conduct the activities that make us visible to Calumet County residents.  Also if you want to run for office or become a delegate, it is wise to be a member of WisDems.

First the easy stuff:  Julie Hancock is doing a research project focusing on Mike Gallagher (a nice map showing 8th Congressional District):

https://legis.wisconsin.gov/ltsb/gisdocs/congressionalmaps/cong_08_poster_map.pdf

Julie was a Democratic write-in-candidate for the 8th Congressional District in 2022.  Here is her note, if any of you have time and would like to help her out (and Gallagher to get out), please connect with her:

I am looking for anyone interested in helping to research and assemble a database of Mike Gallagher’s record, public comments, positions, etc., for a massive marketing campaign I am getting ready to launch as soon as feasible.  If you or anyone you know might be available to help, I will schedule a Zoom in the next week or so to give more specifics.  I’d prefer not to hand out an open link due to the nature of this. If you know anyone interested, please forward me their name and email address to juliehancock@yvamail.com.”

Consider running for an office

This is a sample of media Facebook and Instagram postings that are appearing on Facebook and Instagram now…..and that you are welcome to repost ….“In Wisconsin, there are thousands of seats that will be on the ballot in Spring 2024. Our communities work best when leaders step up and decide to run—and we need you to make that decision. Are you ready to run for office? Or, do you know someone who should? Nominate yourself or another person through the WisDems Candidate Recruitment Form and they’ll be in touch: wisdems.org/spring2024candidates“. I know there are a few people in our county that would seriously be wonderful candidates for down ticket elected positions.  Consider running for a local office.

**And so:  would you like to be a delegate at the Democratic National Convention, in Chicago, August 19-22, 2024.

“Training will start in November/December and run through April. These are open to anyone who wants to be a delegate or wants to learn more about the process. DPW will be starting to email and post about these next week, so watch out for those and please amplify as much as you can. The first few training dates are listed below.”

There will be more, but take a look:
